Thank you for making this virtual visit to Marquette Elementary School! It is such a pleasure to greet you, now for the 7th year as Marquette principal! I am proud to be member of the Marquette community, where staff, family and students create an educational family in an environment where we can feel safe, take risks in our learning, and meet with success!
Our school is unique in that we partner with Lapham Elementary School and are home to students from both neighborhoods; our students attend Lapham Elementary for kindergarten through grade 2, then come to Marquette Elementary for grades 3, 4 and 5. We also share our building with O'Keeffe Middle School, which is where our students will attend before heading to East High School. We strive to partner with all of these schools, to provide successful transitions from one level to the next. Each of these schools provides rigorous and challenging curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards, so each child is prepared for college, career and the community when they complete their MMSD journey.
The Marquette staff is highly collaborative, working as grade level teams to meet the needs of each student. We are an inclusive school, welcoming and supporting students from diverse cultures and with unique learning needs. Our collaborative efforts ensure that each child receives the necessary level of both support and challenge.
In addition to strong academics, we have fun events that involve our students and families, including the annual Marquette Mile, Arts Nights, family learning events, and classroom/grade level events. Teachers incorporate community building activities throughout the day, including Morning Meetings with greetings and activities and brain break activities throughout the day. We encourage our families to be a part of our events as much as possible!
The Marquette Student Council gives a leadership opportunity to students from all grade levels. This group enjoys choosing school Spirit Days, running the School Store, and choosing one or more charitable drives for the school to support each year.
Our school is supported by the Lapham-Marquette Parent Teacher Group (PTG). This group of committed families meets monthly to provide leadership and community support to help make our schools successful. We have many, many parent volunteers who work with staff and students in our schools. In addition we welcome student teachers each semester.
Our school has an excellent after school programs provided by Red Caboose, Inc. and shares space with MMSD alternative programs allowing us expand our community to benefit everyone in our buildings. Please seek out our families and those who have experienced our schools to learn even more about us.
Marquette is a school community where every family is welcomed and valued. We are so pleased that you share your children with us, and want you to feel connected in meaningful ways to positively impact the education of your children, our students!
